This week was filled with Bugs, Bugs, and more Bugs.  The children are exploring the world of bugs and learning how important they for our earth.  They continue to learn the life cycle of specific insects, and even learned that there are over 1 million types of insects in the world! WOW!Some children are enjoying creating circle maps on bugs, while others are using their writing skills to complete a research paper on bugs (reading through different bug books and writing a sentence about what they read).

We continued  to practice for our Spring Performance with Ms. Gloria, and are becoming quite the little actors/actresses on stage.  Our performance will be held on Wednesday, May 29^th @ 9:00am.  Hope to see you all there!

Meet our classroom helpers this week:

Vivian was our classroom greeter.

Kate took care of the plants.

Gabriel led us through the calendar.

Jazz helped get ready for lunch.

Brady reported the weather each day.

Victor fed the fish.

On Friday we celebrated Mother’s Day Tea with all our Wonderful P3 Mothers!  The children were very excited to share some special songs and books with their mommies, and were especially thrilled to hand them the gifts they had made.  A special thank you to Tami Blinn for brining those amazing cookies to share.

Important reminder for Kindergarteners:

Please remember to bring in your child’s white tee-shirt already rubber banded (labeled with your child’s name) as soon as possible!  We will be tye-dying them at school the week before Kindergarten late night.  Thank You!

Important notice from Ms. Karen:

Dear P3 Families:

We would like to inform you of a change to your child’s classroom effective Monday, May 13^th. Ms. Valerie will be substituting for Ms. Maryam during the morning work cycle for the remainder of the school year due to a family medical emergency. Ms. Valerie is known to the children and has previous experience as a primary head and co-teacher. This substitution should cause the least disruption to the classroom and still allow for academic instruction for the remaining 4 weeks. Ms. Michele and Ms. Brianna will continue to facilitate the Kindergarten Program in the afternoon. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.

Meet our classroom helpers this week:

Sydney is our greeter.

This week we introduced Africa, the last of the seven continents we are covering.  The children began to work on the Africa map and learned the shape of the continent.

This month we are also covering insects and exploring the “bug life”.  They have started to explore with some new cultural activities which involve the different life cycles of bugs.

We are working very hard each day for our spring performance with Ms. Gloria.  The children are practicing their lines, learning new songs, and practicing being on stage.  Please don’t forget that our dates for the performance have changed.  Our spring performance will be on Wednesday, May 29^th @ 9:00-9:45am.  Hope to see everyone there!!!

Next week, we will be celebrating Mother’s Day on Friday, May 10^th with a wonderful hour of singing, snacking, and celebrating our Loving Mothers.  We will begin at 9:30am till 10:15am.  If you are unable to attend, please have someone special fill in for you.  The children are very excited to share in this special event.

We have started replacing new activities for the month of May in our practical life area.  These activities will help to enhance fine motor skills and independence.

On Wednesday, May 15^th P3 will be taking a field trip to the LIED Children’s Discovery Museum.  We will be departing at 8:45am.  We are looking for 12 volunteers to help with this field trip.  Please look for a sign up sheet posted soon outside our classroom. Thank You!

On Monday, April 22^nd we celebrated Earth Day with lots of cool projects the children made using recyclable items. They especially enjoyed making a book- holder using recycled cereal boxes they brought from home.  Thank you to our volunteers, Cathy and Trista for your help throughout the morning.

Meet this week’s classroom helpers:

Bia is the greeter and likes to welcome visitors to our room.

Sophia will take care of the plants.

Madeline is responsible for leading circle time and completing the calendar.

Dylan helps clean the classroom after a (sometimes) messy lunch.

Lucas A. helps Ms. Brianna prepare the tables for lunch.

Nathan is responsible for feeding our two fish.

With our beautiful Las Vegas weather this week, the children are having a great time during recess running, jumping, hollahooping, sand building, and sliding.

This week Ms. Lina brought the culture of Bolivia to our classroom and shared a musical slideshow of pictures related to Bolivia.  The pictures consisted of music, food, animals, landmarks, celebrations, and clothing.

Reading buddies relationships:

Through the past 7 months, the children have been sharing books together with their “reading buddy” every Friday.  The relationships that are built throughout the year are so special, and to see the older students sharing thoughts and encouraging conversations with the younger ones is something to be proud of.  It’s amazing to share in this experience.

This week our class discussed the importance of taking care of and protecting the Earth.  We talked about cleaning up our environment and how to continue recycling our trash.  We read: “Why Should I Recycle” and learned new ways of helping the Earth.  The children also enjoyed new Earth Day activities in the Practical Life Area.  We’ve also learned a new song titled: Promise.  It teaches the children that the Earth is there home and to always Promise to protect it.

We also continued our studies of South America and the Rain Forest, and learned about more animals that live in the rainforest (spider monkey, jaguar, Yanomani people, and the chameleon).

 Meet Our Classroom Helpers This Week:

Lars is the Greeter this week.  Whenever a visitor enters the classroom, Lars is responsible for introducing himself and welcoming them to our classroom.

Sydney takes care of the plants in the classroom.

Victor is the calendar helper.  He leads the circle and goes through the days of the week and the dates.

Sophia helps get lunch ready by placing everyone’s lunch and name cards at the tables.

Mia reports the weather to our class.

Noah feeds the fish.

On Monday, we had our Rainforest Assembly and enjoyed seeing some real life animals from the rainforest.  We saw snakes, lizards, a tarantula, hissing beetles, a macaw,  and an iguana.    The children learned all about their habitat and ways to help protect our amazing rainforests.

During Kindergarten, Ms. Maryam  presented an Exchange Game which focused on exchanging units to ten bars, ten bars to hundreds, and hundreds to thousands.

 On Monday, April 22^nd we are celebrating Earth Day with some earth friendly projects.  Please remember to bring in an empty cereal box (like shown below) by Monday,  so that we can begin making our Earth Day book holder to take home.  Thank You for your support!

This week we continued to learn about South America and the Rain Forest.  We discussed all the amazing animals and learned about the different layers that make up the rain forest.  The children had an opportunity to taste some wonderful fruit from South America and the Rain Forest, such as: papaya, pineapple, mangos, grapes, coconut flakes, and different tropical fruits.  Thank you to our parents who volunteered to bring fruit in to share.  The children really enjoyed it. YUMMY!

The children also drew their own rain forest picture and added their own animals to each layer. Lastly, Ms. Diana from P2  joined our classroom and showed the children a dance from Argentina.

In Spanish class,  Ms. Lina played some music and shared a few instruments from South America.  They were: a Zampona ( wind instrument), a Jira, a Jicara, and  Maracas.

This week we discussed the importance of Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse and the effects it has on our environment.

Our older students are continuing to mentor their younger friends in the classroom and are enjoy playing the role as the “teacher”.

We are so very proud of our Kindergarteners for working hard every afternoon on completing their goals…….Great Job!!!
