Fall Already?

Dear P3 Families,

Can you believe that September is coming to an end and conferences are right around the corner? Everyone should have received a bright orange packet with your conference information, as well as a Zoom link on your assigned conference day. Doing this via Zoom is very new to all of us, so we thank you for your patience in advance! Please take some time before the conference to review the conference form for any questions you may have. If you did not receive the packet or a link for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible. We look forward to speaking with all of you!

We are concluding our studies on community helpers, food groups, safety, and apples. the children enjoyed discussions on different roles our community helpers play in our society, and we have many aspiring police officers in our class! They were also able to study the parts of a real apple during circle time, seeing the core, seeds, flesh, skin, and stem, as well as it’s entire life cycle.

As many of you know, the Montessori Method is not big on paper work and worksheets. Children this age are not always capable of talking to parents about every “job” or “lesson” they learned that day. If they come home with a small booklet that says, “I worked on these sounds today!”, please practice them at home, as it is an important step towards their reading journey! And as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Our Community and Food Groups

Dear P3 Families,

The children have settled into the new school year and we hope the parents have as well! We have worked diligently on classroom rules and procedures, and the students are enjoying making friends. We would like to thank you for being extra patient with your teachers during morning drop off. We know the health screening questions may seem redundant, but we appreciate your cooperation in keeping us all healthy!

Everyone is loving our study on Community Helpers. They also love working on fruit and vegetable sorting, and we have started talking about seeds and apples with simple experiments as well. Our new friends have begun learning their letter sounds, and we are so proud of the Kindergarten children for getting in the habit of completing their goals. In addition to all of this hard work, we have also been practicing all of our important safety drills.

First Month of School Down!

Dear P3 families,

The first month of school has gone by like the blink of an eye! There were a lot of new procedures and protocols that had to be put in place during this time but we are so amazed how resilient your children are by adapting to routine extremely well. Our new friends have acclimated to the school environment beautifully, and our old friends are reviewing material that they worked on last year.

Here are some of your children hard at work!

Pre-Reading Matching Activity
Working on phonetic sounds
CVC Reading Box
CVC Reading Box

Did you know knowing the names of the letters or the ABC song has no correlation with learning how to read? Instead, practice saying or singing the phonetic short sound of the letter with your child at home!

Colored Bead Bars 1-10. It’s important for the children to master the colors as this simple activity leads to more advanced math operations using this material in the future.
1-10 counters
100 Board

Try counting things around the house if you have a younger child. Anything works, such as spoons, socks, rocks, etc.

Pink Tower
Brown Stairs

The Sensorial area is crucial for younger friends as it is meant to develop all five senses. It also teaches them dimension and size discrimination.

World Landmarks

Alot of times when parents ask, “What did you do today?”, many children respond with “Nothing”. We assure you that is not the case! It may be challenging for some children to answer a very general question so we suggest the following questions you can use when trying to find out about your child’s day:

“Did you do numbers today?”

“Who did you play with?”

“Did Ms. Jo/Ms. Alisa read you a story/ show you a new job during circle?”

A good idea is to also read the blog together, and ask your children to talk to you about the photos.

We had a lot of fun this month learning about Seasons and Weather, Feelings and Emotions, Classroom Community Building, Grace and courtesy, Clouds, Living and Non Living, and Garden Studies.

These are our September Studies:

-Safety and Community Helpers

-Nutrition and Food Groups

-Plant vs Animal

-Land and water

-Apple Studies

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any questions you may have. Thank you so much for all your help and patience, it has made this first month such a success!

Sincerely,

P3 Teachers

Hello 2020! It’s Going to be an Exciting Year!

Welcome the the new school year, P3! It was so nice to see everybody again, and we are so excited to meet all our new friends! With so many changes, new safety protocols and procedures, we would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation. Although families were not able to see our classrooms during Meet and Greet, here are the 5 areas of our classroom:

The children are adjusting beautifully, making new friends, getting to know their teachers, and learning plenty of new work.

This month we are focusing on classroom ground rules and procedures, and learning all about the Weather and Seasons, Feelings and Emotions, Living and Non-Living, and Garden Studies. The children have also been enjoying the outdoor classroom with Ms. Gayle.
