The Last Stretch!

Dear P3 Families,

We can’t believe how fast this school year zipped by! We have been extremely busy this month learning about the animals, landmarks, and people of Africa. This tied in perfectly with our field trip to the Natural History Museum, as the children were able to see life sized lions, giraffes, and cheetahs. They loved all the interactive exhibits, especially the dinosaurs and fossils, and ocean life. Again, thank you so much to our parent chaperones, we are extremely grateful for all your help.

We are also studying bugs and insects, and the children are incredibly fascinated by the tunnels created by our pet ants! Mr. Tadpole is still healthy and happy, with two bumps under his belly. We are all waiting and watching him every single day as his legs should be coming out any minute now! We are crossing our fingers that it happens in the next two weeks!

Mother’s Day Tea was also such a wonderful celebration that our friends loved. It was such an enjoyable event, and we thank all the mommies, grandmas, and those that played mommy for a day.  It was such a memorable occasion for the children, and we hope you all had a great time as well! Field day was probably the highlight of the month. P3 and P4 children enjoyed an hour of getting soaked with water balloons, playing water games, and dunking themselves in plastic pools. Thanks Coach Bob and parent helpers!

Bird’s the Word!

Dear P3 Families,

Our field trip to the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary was a blast! The children had a fantastic time holding baby chicks, talking to crazy cockatoos, and playing with the goats (even though two escaped from the pen, oops!). Not only were they able to see rescued South American birds, but they got to meet llamas, pigs, tortoises, and a peculiar looking donkey-mule as well. We would like to send a special “Thank you” to our parent chaperones who made this trip possible. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Another field trip is coming up on Tuesday, May 2nd, from 8:30am-11:00am. We will be going to the Natural History Museum.  Details and the chaperone sign-up sheet is posted outside our classroom. We appreciate all your help!

The children are very much enjoying our studies on South America and the animals of the rainforest. We have been learning about different types of birds, dissected flowers, and still eagerly waiting for our tadpole to grow legs! May is just around the corner and our themes for the month will be Africa, insects, and invertebrates.

Meet Leo!

Dear P3 Families,

We are so excited to have a new addition to our P3 family, Leo the tadpole! The children brilliantly came up with that name because he will eventually turn into a Leopard Frog. Did you know it’s a 6-12 week process for a tadpole to go through metamorphosis? We didn’t, so we’re hoping that he at least sprouts some legs before summer!

Dinosaurs are March-ing in!!

Dear FMS Families,

We can’t believe it’s March! We are so proud of our Pre-Ks, many have took off on their reading and are on reading boxes! They have been working so hard, and are so happy with what they have accomplished. That being said, we recommend that they practice their handwriting at home. There are many hand writing books appropriate for their age, and are available at Barnes N’ Noble and Lakeshore. In this generation of touch screens and other smart devices, children just don’t write as much as they used to.  So there is no such thing as too much practice!

Dr. Seuss day was a blast. We had Cindy Lou Whos, Thing 1 and Thing 2s, and Cat in the Hats running about. We enjoyed eating green eggs and ham for snack, read Dr. Seuss books, and did loads of Dr. Seuss crafts and activities.

This month we will be learning about Asia, amphibians and reptiles, and dinosaurs! Please keep our themes in mind if you have volunteered for reading, art, or cooking this month.

Please don’t forget to sign up for conferences on 3/23 and 3/24. Sign- up sheets will be available on Monday, 3/6. Please note we will not be scheduling times prior to 3/6.

P3 Team

We are so happy to announce that our afternoon class has grown! New friends have joined our P3 family and we are so happy to have them. It’s amazing to watch our older friends be such great mentors!

During the last half of this month we continued to study the solar system, including the phases of the moon. The children had a blast with this lesson because we did it with Oreos! What better way to learn about moon phases by biting chunks of the frosting? We have also had several parents come in for circle time to read books about space, and polar and Antarctic animals to support our monthly themes. The children love having books read to them…thank you so much to our volunteers.

We are also very proud of your little ones, as there has been a surge of amazing progress in building words and sound blending. Keep up the good work at home! Even during this tech era, it’s so important to read with your child with a good old fashioned book for at least 20 minutes a day.

Sign-up sheets for classroom volunteers and practical life supplies are posted outside the classroom. Please feel free to sign up and set up dates with any of the teachers.
