Flat Stanley:

This week was filled with lots of holiday stories the children shared with each other, and the travels that Flat Stanley took during Thanksgiving break.  The children enjoyed looking at pictures from their friends and heard about all the cool places Flat Stanley vistied.  Thank you for sharing your journey with us.  The children are looking forward to starting a brand new chapter book – coming soon!!

Kindergarten Field trip:

This week the Kindergarteners went to visit the fire station down the street and played at Amador Park.  They toured inside the fire house and even saw where the firemen sleep.  The children learned all about fire safety and what to do in case of an emergency.  They learned about the fire truck and got to see inside of it.  During our visit, there was an emergency call that came in to the fire house and  the children watched as the ambulance pulled out of the station with its sirens going – it was exciting to see!!

This week, we introduced new Practical Life works and the children are starting to explore with them.  These include: holiday tree decorating, gift wrapping, sorting, bell stringing, and folding holiday clothing.

The weather has been beautiful outside lately, so the children are thoroughly enjoying the outside classroom with Ms. Val.  The leaves have changed colors and are beginning to fall, so there are lots of leaves that need raking!!!

Cultural studies:

We are ending our North America studies and will be beginning Europe by next week.  The children learned all about the land, people, food, and culture.  If there are any parents who have traveled to Europe or have any information about Europe that you would like to share with us, we would greatly appreciate it.  Just let us know – thanks!!

Kindergarten Field Trip to Red Rock:

On Thursday, the Kindergarteners went to Red Rock Canyon for their hike on the Discovery Trail and had a picnic lunch.  We had a blast!!  The children enjoyed hiking the trail and seeing and touching some of the great trees, bushes and rocks they have been learning about.  They experienced the great outdoors and learned more about nature that surrounds them.  Eating lunch in a picnic area surrounded by great big red rocks was a special treat.  It was a true success!!

Thank You again for all our parent volunteers who helped guide the children along the way.

Thanksgiving:

We have been discussing the history behind Thanksgiving and talked about the Mayflower and their route to the new land.  The children role-played how it must have felt traveling across the Atlantic on the Mayflower.  The children also shared what they are Thankful for this year (some really great answers from some really great children!!).
