This week we are finishing up Australia and Oceans in our cultural area, and the children continued to learn about the different animals among the two.  We learned the different parts of a fish and actually got to see and feel a real one and look at all the different parts.

This week, we also worked on our self-portrait and our calendar for the month of March.

On Tuesday, February 26th – the Kindergarteners visited the Marine Lab at  Estes McDoniel  Elementary School.  It was a great addition to our Oceans theme where the children were able to see some of the animals that we’ve been studying.   After the Marine Lab, the Kindergarteners enjoyed a picnic lunch and some fun at the park.  Thank you to all our chaperones who helped transport our children safely and helped to keep an extra “eye” on our students.

The Kindergarteners finished their letter to the President and its been mailed out!!  We are hoping for a response soon.

On Thursday, February 28th – We had a special visitor come to our classroom.  Dr. Brad is a Dentist who visited our students to talk about Dental health.  He showed the children the proper way to brush, the right foods to eat, and how to prevent cavities.  Thank You Dr. Brad for all your wonderful information.

Throughout the week, our children helped Ms. Val (our outdoor teacher) do some fantastic gardening.  The children planted tomatoes, green/yellow/red peppers, and some marigold flowers.

On Friday, March 1st – We celebrated Dr. Seuss’s Birthday with fun art activities, cooking green eggs and ham, and sharing our favorite Dr. Seuss book.

Upcoming events:

Thursday & Friday, March 7th and 8th – Parent/Teacher Conferences.  ½ day dismissal @ 11:15.  Each conference will last for 15 minutes.

Monday, March 11th – Russian Assembly @ 10:00am

Wednesday, March 13th – National History Museum Field Trip.  Please look for volunteer sign-up sheet posted soon.  Also, If you have gone on prior field trips, we would ask you to allow other parents to have an opportunity to volunteer as well.  Thank You for your consideration.

Friday, March 22nd – ½ day dismissal @ 11:15.  Spring break Begins!!!

The children are continuing to study the ocean and learn about the different animals and how they protect themselves from predators. We also discussed the Great Barrier Reef and looked at beautiful pictures of all the colorful fish.

On Thursdays, the children have been enjoying Spanish Class with Ms. Lina and are learning new songs as well.  This week they learned a new song about farm animals.

On Friday, we celebrated George Washington’s birthday and discussed some important facts about him.  Some children brought in a quarter to see Washington’s face on it.

On Tuesday, February 26th – the Kindergarteners will be going to Este McDoniel Elementary School to visit their Marine Lab.  They will also have lunch and enjoy an hour of play at the nearby park.  Please remember to pack a sack lunch and bring your child’s booster seat to school the morning of and leave it outside P3’s door labeled with your child’s name on it.

 

On Thursday, February 28th – We will have a visitor come to discuss Dental Health with the children.

A Fun-Filled Week in P3

What an exciting week!!  From Spirit Week to Parent/Child Night and Valentine’s Day; the children were super busy with lots of things to do

We started the week discussing Abraham Lincoln and the many presidents that helped form our great nation.  After more discussion with our Kindergarteners, they have decided to write a letter to President Obama and thanking him for all he does to help our country. We are still working on our letter and are eager to send it to the White House.

On Monday, all Kindergarteners attended an assembly that  talked about “Being Kind” to others.  They used puppets to demonstrate ways to be kind and ways to resolve conflicts.

In our cultural studies, we continued to learn about the different animals in Australia and discussed the ocean life and all the many creatures that make up the ocean world.  We learned new songs related to Australia’s amazing animals and land. Our class also enjoyed a DVD on ocean life and saw how all our wonderful ocean creatures live.

On Wednesday evening, we had our Parent/Child Night where the children were eager to share all their great works they accomplish during their days.  It was a great night for the parents to experience the hard work and excitement their children are involved in everyday at school.  Thank you all for coming.  It’s always nice getting to see everyone.

On Thursday, we celebrated Valentine’s Day and exchanged valentine cards with one another.  The children decorated cookies to take home and enjoyed a great day of friendships. A special Thank You to our amazing volunteers who helped make this day so memorable.

Busy Bees in P3

This week we focused on all the different animals that live in Australia.  We discussed their unique characteristics, having a pouch, and learned new terms such as marsupial.

The children are having fun exploring with new practical life activities, and strengthening their fine motor skills and independence.

On Friday, We discussed the Chinese New Year and learned a little about this special event.  The children used chop sticks with their snack and got Chinese coins to take home.

Our kindergarteners celebrated their “100 Days of Kindergarten” on Thursday with a party filled with great activities, food, arts & crafts, and sharing their 100 day projects.  It was a memorable day for them all and we are so very proud of their accomplishments. We want to also give a great “BIG Thank You” to our wonderful volunteers who helped put it all together.  Thank You to Trista, Cathy, Nicole, and Jennifer.

Just a reminder for next week on Thursday, February 14th we will be passing out Valentine Day cards and making a special treat with the children.  Please bring in your child’s decorated Valentine box by Thursday with Valentine cards for all 33 children addressed from your child only.

Beginning a Fresh Start in February!

On Monday, the children enjoyed watching Chinese dancers in the music room.  They were amazed by their strength, acrobatics, and difficult juggling.

This week we finished our studies of the Solar System and discussed what constellations are made of.   The Kindergarteners completed their own Solar System project which they laid out the 8 planets in order and labeled each one.  They also made a Constellation telescope to look through, and learned how to make a “circle Map” on the Solar System.

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 14th.  We will have a Valentine card exchange with the children.   We are asking each child to decorate a box at home for collecting their Valentine cards.   Decorated boxes should be brought to school on the morning of February 14th.  Each child will need to bring 33 Valentines.  Please have your child write their name only; Valentines should not be addressed to individual children.  Small gifts such as pencils, stickers, etc. are acceptable.  Please do not send candy.  Thank You!

 

During the month of February, we will be learning about Australia.  If there is anyone who may have visited, has pictures, or makes food from Australia; we would love you to share your information with us.
