P3 has been very busy these past two weeks.  We are covering the continent of North America and learning all about the three countries that make up North America (Canada, United States, and Mexico).  We are exploring the land, culture, food, famous land marks, climate, animals, and language of each country.  The children are enjoying working with new materials in our cultural area that help to teach these concepts; along with using our continent map of North America.

Wow……We had an amazing World History Day!!  We hope everyone enjoyed the day.  What an incredible and adventurous journey for all.  We saw sea creatures, dinosaurs, volcanoes, cavemen, pyramids, and walked through the Renaissance era.  The children got to taste different foods, explore the marvelous underwater life, learn all about the time of dinosaurs, and have fun with arts & crafts.  The children truly enjoyed every part of their day.  We appreciate the time our parents spent on helping to make this day joyful and full of learning.  Thank you to all our FMS families for helping transform our room into the age of  Dinosaurs.  Our room was filled with wonderful activities and experiences, such as: exploring with volcanoes, seeing the actual sizes of a dinosaur’s footprint,  digging for dinosaur bones, and trying to walk with dinosaur feet.  It was incredible to watch the looks on the children’s faces once they entered each different time period.

We are closing out October themes and starting with our new November themes.  During the month we will be covering North America, Desert Studies, and Reptiles.  We welcome any parents in our room throughout the month of November who would like to share some information regarding our study of North America.  If you have any souvenirs, pictures, or even facts pertaining to North America, Canada, or Mexico; we would love to hear from you!

We would like to thank the students from Ms. Erics’a middle school class (E1) for visiting our room and sharing a song related to the different bones in the human body.  We also enjoyed borrowing her skeleton (not Ms. Erica’s personally…..lol) and learning the names of the different bones.

As we close up the first month of school, we are already so impressed with the students in P3.  Not only have we all settled in nicely to the routine, but we have also shown great progress and independence within the classroom.  Friendships are growing and our class community is blossoming.  It sure is a wonderful place to be in P3.

In September, we had an exciting guest visit our classroom.  Zoli’s dad who is a fireman came to our room and discussed the importance of fire safety.  The children loved seeing the full fireman’s protective suit and listening to the air tank which hepls them to breathe in a fire.  The children had lots and lots of questions (which were really lots and lots of stories!!!), and enjoyed hearing all about the life of a firefighter. We also had a police officer visit our class and discussed all the duties of a police officer.

We ended our September themes, and started our new October themes with pumpkin studies and learning all the bones that make up our skeleton. Our practical life, science, and cultural areas have been changed over to match the October themes, and the children have been exploring with new materials. The children have been reading books, learning the different parts of a pumpkin, and studying the names of several bones in the body.   In the practical life area, the children are pouring, spooning, tweezing, sorting, and transferring which is building up their fine motor skills.

Our older student are becoming great mentors for the younger students and helping them throughout the day with certain activities. Example:  One of our younger students is greeting a visitor in our classroom and our older student is helping her remember what to say.

On Thursday, October 3rd, our Kindergarteners went on their first field trip to the Fire Station.  We learned how the firemen live at the fire station and how a typical day goes for them.  During our tour, the firemen got an actual emergency call and had to stop our tour of the fire station and go on their call.  We were asked to walk outside the firehouse and stand off to the side while the firemen got their gear and loaded up the trucks.  We watched them pull out of the fire station with their lights and sirens, heading down the road.  It was very exciting to see.  We then headed to the park down the street for some fun in the sun.  It was a successful field trip thanks to all our parent volunteers.
