We had our Parent/Child Night, where the children were eager to share all their great work they have accomplished during the school year. It was a fantastic experience to see how their children are involved with materials everyday. Thank you for coming, we are very grateful and appreciative for the time we spent together.

Dr. Seuss’ Birthday was a lot of fun. Children dressed up as their favorite characters. They also shared their favorite Dr. Seuss book with their classmates. We wanted to thank Mrs. Takashima for the fun snack of Green Eggs and Ham. It was very “YUMMY” and the children really enjoyed them.

-Some fun facts about Asia are:

The highest point on earth is Mt. Everest.

The lowest point on land is the Dead Sea.

Asia is the only continent that shares a boarder with two other continents- Africa and Europe.

-We will also study Dinosaurs this month:

Dinosaurs came before humans. The word means “Terrible Lizard”

We will learn a lot of fun facts about dinosaurs. The children will pretend they are paleontologists and dig in the sand to find fossils.

P3 Teachers

Flipping Through February

Hello parents and welcome to our blog!

These past two weeks have been very busy in P3.  We’ve continued focusing on Australia and our amazing ocean animals. We learned about Australia’s wild life, climate,  popular landmarks, and foods.

P1020439

After much discussion about Australia, we had Mr. & Mrs. Burton (Willow’s parents) visit our classroom and share information about Australia with the children.  They shared photos, facts, and food with our class.  The children sampled Vegemite (a spread) and Tim-Tams (biscuits) from Australia.  Willow read an Australian book called: Meet Snugglepoy and Cuddlepie – a tale of gumnut babies, as they go on an Australian Bush adventure.

We discussed different ocean animals and learned the names of the five oceans that surround the Earth.

This month we focused on Dental Health and had a visitor from a local dentist come to our class and discussed the importance of healthy teeth.  Through fun-loving puppets, they were able to show the children proper ways of brushing, flossing, and eating healthy foods to help take care of your teeth.

Our Kindergarteners celebrated their 100th Day of Kindergarten.  They shared their 100 items board, made arts & crafts (decorated a picture of themselves at 100 years old), played games (built with 100 blocks, made a pizza with 100 toppings, and looped 100 fruitloops for a necklace), and spent time together with P2 Kindergarteners.

Our Kindergarteners also went on a field trip to Estes McDoniel to visit their Marine Lab.  The children got to see a variety of fish, sea life and even held a starfish and sea urchin.

They also enjoyed a picnic lunch and some time to play with their friends in the park.  Thank you again for all our volunteers who helped make our trip a safe and successful one.

Jumping out of January…….

Hello parents and welcome to our blog.  Thank you for visiting.

This month was filled with lots of information about our amazing Solar System.  The children learned all about the eight planets, their size, distance from the sun, and the gases that make them up.  We learned a planet song, worked on activities in our cultural area, and read books with lots of great information about our planets.

P1020338

The Layers of the Earth (song)

Take the world and split it right in two

open it up, and there you’ll find a lesson for you, its true, for you.

And the lesson you will get today its called “The Layers of the Earth” and where they lay.

What do you say, there’s a crust in the mantle the outer in the inner core

open the world, and that’s what will be in store.

Our Kindergartens did some fun-filled activities that involved making their own constellations, creating their own Planet Research Books, and displaying the Solar System on a poster board.

Last week, the children had a fun day dressing up like their favorite character.  They shared who and why they picked their character.  It was a great way to see their creative side in dressing like their favorite character.

Our Kindergarteners have been working very hard on completing their goals everyday.  Their reading, language, math, and science skills are getting stronger, and their knowledge of monthly themes are enormous.  We are very proud of them all!

Just a friendly reminder:  The last Friday of every month is “sharing day”.  Your child is able to bring in something to share with the class related with the theme of the month.

Jumping into January

Hello parents and thank you for visiting our blog!

P1020322

We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday break and we are very excited to start the new year again with your children.

This month we are focusing on the Solar System, Constellations, Space, and Planets.  We discussed the inner planets and outer planets and learned a song naming the planets in order. We talked about the different gases that make up some of the planets and how far they are from the sun.

Our practical life area and cultural area are filled with new materials for the children to explore with and to help enhance their learning with the different themes for the month.

This month we have introduced our new “Peace” curriculum called – Honoring the Light of the Child. It’s weekly activities to help nurture peaceful living skills in young children.  Activity One – “See My Love” explained to the children that they are special and unique, and how they all have lights of love within them.  These lights of love are called their “Love Lights” and we explained how its the inner peace within them.  These lessons will continue weekly with ways of teaching the children peaceful ways of solving problems.

On Wednesday, January 8th, we had the African Dance Troupe performed for us with lots of high energy dance and drum playing.  We learned about their culture and a way of communicating through dance and music.

Our Kindergarteners celebrated their first chapter book party with Charlie and Chocolate Factory.  They watched the original movie and had some time for some arts and crafts.

P1020323This past week we discussed the importance of celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, and how he was a great influence on making our country united.

Upcoming Events:

On Monday, January 20th – Our school will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.

We’re wrapped in the excitement of it all
