Things are Getting Scaley in P3!

Dear P3 Families,

We are wrapping up our studies on Australia and the oceans. The children have had an amazing time learning all about Australian animals, and were fascinated learning about all the unique creatures under the sea. We would like to thank Tristan’s family for sharing great information on Australia, and the children loved vegimite!

Students learned about the different territories of Australia through puzzle maps, and enjoyed coloring the flags of the various territories, as well.

The children had a great time celebrating Valentine’s Day with the card exchange, including decorating their bags which was half the fun! We enjoyed celebrating a few birthdays, as well.

In addition to our cultural studies, the children continued working diligently with language and math materials, and we are very proud of the work ethic we have seen develop since the begining of the school year.

Second Semester, Let’s Do This!

Dear P3 Families,

We hope everyone has settled into the new year as we enter second semester. The children are settled back into their routines, and absolutely loved learning about the Solar System and the Polar Regions in January. I’m sure the Planet Song has made its way home by now! They are all working extremely hard in Language and Math with individual lessons, while many Pre-K students have shown readiness for more advanced math material such as the Decimal Layout and the Snake Game. The Kindergarteners are practicing their penmanship diligently, particularly proper finger spacing, punctuation, and letter formation. We are so proud of how hard everyone is working, and the progress we have seen in various areas is absolutely amazing.

The children also had an opportunity to pack food bags for the less fortunate children at Whitney Elementary School. Thanks to your generous donations, P3 was able to provide 43 children with food for a weekend! We truly appreciate your help and support. We also enjoyed a special Robotics presentation, truly amazed by all the droids and technology.

Happy New Year!

Dear P3 Families,

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and a fantastic New Year celebration. We are kicking off our January studies learning about the Solar System, Antarctica, and introduced Martin Luther King, Jr. Please note for this age group, we primarily focused on his advocacy for fairness, love, and kindness. The children are also learning about the planets, and are extremely fascinated about the animals that live in the world’s coldest regions.

In addition to our Peace Curriculum, we will be introducing the concept of “Mindfulness.” A trainer hosted a workshop on campus during teacher in-service last Monday as an extension of the classes the teachers attended during the 2017 AMS conference. These are additional techniques and strategies that will help students stay focused, concentrate on one task at a time, and simple breathing techniques to calm their busy brains. Please feel free to email or talk to us if you have any questions.

This month we will be having our Kindergarten and First Grade Information/Enrollment Nights. We strongly suggest our Pre-K and Kindergarten parents to attend to learn all about our wonderful Kindergarten and Lower Elementary programs for the 2018-19 school year.

P3 Holiday Love

Dear P3 Families,

The semester has come to an end and we would like to thank you so much for your generosity as we leave for the holidays. We couldn’t have asked for more thoughtful and kind families! We hope you enjoyed our Holiday Sing A-Long, as the children were very excited practicing their songs for you.

We have been busy working one-on-one with your children in Language and Math, so please continue to read or practice phonetic sounds during the break to keep their skills fresh for a new semester in January. We have also learned about the continent of Europe, and would like to thank P3 families for sharing information about their native homeland. The children have enjoyed learning about various holidays celebrated during this time of year through songs, stories, and art, and even got the chance to watch Russian dancers perform.

THINGS ARE GETTING SCALY!

Dear P3 Families,

We are only half way through November and so many exciting things have happened this month! The Primary classes attended an assembly called “Wild About Animals” and had the opportunity to learn about beautiful and exotic creatures such as the kookaburra bird, chinchilla, and various types of desert reptiles. We would also like to thank all of you who attended Parent-Child Night. It was wonderful seeing the excited faces of your children as they were showing you their favorite work. If you were unable to attend, there will be another one scheduled when we return from winter break so please keep an eye out for those dates.

The children have been so enthusiastic learning about different types of reptiles and their characteristics. They have also been quite fascinated learning about the diversity of North America. We have read about the pedal powered taxis of Cuba, the musicians in the streets of Mexico, the street markets of Haiti, the big buildings in New York, and the oil rigs in Texas. Our older children are working hard on their writing, utilizing circle maps and using picture stories to practice forming sentences.

The volunteer sign-up sheet for our field trip to the Nevada State Museum is located outside the classroom door, and there are still a few spots available for those that are willing to help that day. Please note that the bus leaves promptly at 8:30am, so we would like the children to be here no later than 8:15am. Ms. Alisa will be reviewing chaperone procedures prior to departure so it is important that parent volunteers be on time. Lastly, please remember to dress students in their bright orange FMS field trip shirts!
