An Amazing First Month!

Dear Primary 3 Families,

We had an amazing first month of school! The children are getting to know each other, and are getting comfortable with their new environment. I know that being in a formal school setting is a first for many, and being away from home may also be something new to them due to the pandemic. Anxiety is normal during the first few weeks, maybe even for the first couple of months. Even though some drop-offs come with tears, be assured that they quickly calm down and go about their day. We will definitely call home should a child remain extremely distressed after utilizing all our skills to calm and get them settled.

We have spent the month assessing all the children, and working with them according to their skill level. Many are working on phonetic sounds, building CVC words, numbers and counting (quantity and symbol), and simple operations. They loved learning about the seasons, weather, and the garden as well.

The children were so amazed by how fuzzy and rough the leaves were!

Many times when parents ask, “What did you do today?”, children respond with, “Nothing.” We assure you that is not the case! It may be challenging for some children to answer a very general question so we suggest the following questions you can use when trying to find out about your child’s day:

“Did you do numbers today?”

“Who did you play with?”

“Did Ms. Jo/Ms. Alisa read you a story/ show you a new job during circle?”

A good idea is to also read the blog together, and ask your children to talk to you about the photos. Here are a few photos of the children at work!

Hello School Year 2021!

Dear Primary 3 Parents,

Welcome! Ms. Jo, Ms. Alisa, and Ms. Carla are so excited having all of you join us this school year. It has been a pleasure to meet new friends and such a joy to see familiar faces.

The first week of school was a success! The children are adjusting beautifully, making new friends, getting to know their teachers, and learning plenty of new work. We know there have been tears during drop off, and we understand that you might be concerned. However, please be assured they settle down into a routine quickly and go about their very busy day. We will call you if we cannot console your child after utilizing all of our skills and TLC touch. We recommend quick goodbyes at the door with a teacher’s help if needed, and encourage your child to put away their things on their own to foster independence. We have been focusing on ground rules, classroom routines and procedures, making friends, reviewing work from the previous school year, and introducing new ones.
